When I was Travelling through Berlin (click here to read about my travels), I got a bit tired of all the meat dishes (After all, the Germans are known for their meats and sausages). I'm not a big meat-eater and wanted something on the 'Vegeterian-side'. The pub we stopped at for Dinner on our last night in Berlin had a Grilled Halloumi Burger (pictured left) ...
My Family and Friends have Fallen in Love with this dish as well!
Ingredients:
[Serves: 4]
x4 Soft Rolls
Halloumi Cheese (Enough to Cover x4 Roll — Depending on how much Halloumi you like)
Garnish:
x1 Large Red Tomato sliced
x1 Red Onion, sliced in rings
x1 Medium Pickles thinly sliced
x1 Avocado Sliced
A few sliced peppadews (These really work well with the Sweet Chilli Sauce)
A Few Salad Leaves
Condiments:
Sweet Chilli Sauce ... I love Wellingtons Sweet Chilli Sauce
Mayonnaise (I prefer Woolworth Mayo, but use the brand you like best)
Time: 15-20 minutes
(Including slicing the above ingredients)
Step 1:
Cut the Halloumi into ±1cm Thick Slices (You can either cut them so that they are the width of your roll or make smaller slices so that a few slices are needed to cover your roll).
Step 2:
Heat up a pan with oil (I prefer Olive Oil) and fry the halloumi slices until golden brown. If you would like a healthier option, you can Grill the Halloumi Cheese instead.

Step 3:
While the Halloumi pieces are frying, the rest of the family/guests can each cut their own roll in half and spread Mayo and Sweet Chilli Sauce according to their own taste and place whatever garnishes they like.
Step 4:
As soon as the Halloumi is Golden Brown (it should take about a couple of minutes per side), place it on the roll ... and Enjoy while Warm!
You can serve this Dish with either a Side Salad, Grilled Veggies, Crisps or Fries or a combination.
Bon Apetit!
