Fashion designer Coco Chanel, born August 19, 1883, in Saumur, France, was raised in orphanages and this is where she learnt to sew. Having a brief career as a singer before opening her first clothes shop in 1910, she went on to launch her first perfume and introduce the Chanel suit and the Little Black Dress in the 1920s.
