Quartz by Black Coffee

Yesterday Afternoon I was priviledged to attended the Summer 2012/13 Black Coffee Show at the Bamboo Centre in Melville...

I was already excited for the show as we had seen snippets of it at The Sheer Glamour Collections the previous Evening. Media and Attendees were placed into groups and while I waited for 'Group 2' to be called, I decided to mingle on the Rooftop of the Bamboo Centre where there were many Fashionably Dressed People, much Champagne and some Delicious Snacks.

Finally, 'Group 2' was called to go downstairs: It was going to be an 'Intimate Affair' judging by the limited number of chairs (±30) in the room facing an Improvised Stage.

The title of the Collection is Quartz, and it is a structural Exploration of a Variety of Organic Forms. It is the result of Black Coffee's singular pursuit of the Construction of Garments inspired by Basic Geometry and the Human Body.

A large and intricate Chandelier formed part of the props while a soundtrack of the Ocean played in the background; one Model stood in the centre, motionless, facing away from the Audience.

As the lights dimmed the Model came to life and began moving slowly and awkwardly in smooth, yet jerky, movements.

Another Model joined the first, slowly manoeuvring from 'back stage' dressed in a Constructed Tangerine Dress. This Character was a bit more timid and had reptilian-like movements.

A third Model began to emerge, this time, walking backwards. She Twisted and Turned more Fluidly than the previous two, but her movements were still tense. She situated herself in a kneeling position.

A fourth and Final Model, came into view; walking almost normally towards the Kneeling Model and standing over her, while the Kneeling Model assumed a sitting position, closer to the ground.

Black Coffee's Signature Pallet of Black and Grey was accented with delicate hues which resembled the refraction of light found in Mineral Formations.

The Unconventional Range Presentation definitely portrayed much emotion and despite wanting to see more Pieces from the Collection, the show was very Artistic and definitely Memorable!
